September 3rd to November 7th, 2010
Sandy Olsen is a young man who was living happily with his father, Captain Tyler Olsen flight instructor, stationed at the Air Base in Moose Jaw, SK. In the summer of 1959 Sandy found a job working at a summer camp for kids in Cold Lake. There he met Danielle Zuko. At the end of the summer, Danielle had to return to Calgary and Sandy's Dad was awaiting new orders to an undisclosed location. The two young lovers bid each other a sad farewell and shared one last kiss!
As things would happen, Sandy ends up moving to Calgary and will be attending grade 12 at Rydell High... the same school his beloved Danielle attends! Life is perfect right? Wrong! Sandy soon finds out that the nice, quiet, conservative Danielle he met during the summer in Cold Lake is known as, Danni, the leader of the tough girl's greaser gang, the T-birdies!
Sandy looks to his only new friend and only other member of the chess club, Buddy Rizzo, for help. Meanwhile, Danni has been consulting her girl friends on what to do about Sandy. Will Danielle become a member of the chess club or will Sandy get greased?
Rock and roll music supplies the sound track for our light-hearted romp back to the 1950's! We shall do our best to remind you all about the antics and angst of teenage love. Join us for the very first dance of the year, the Sadie Hawkins dance, here at Rydell High! So remember girls, you have to ask the boys!
WRITER'S NOTES
Welcome to Rydell High, boys and girls! Tonight, you are the students, here for the annual Sadie Hawkins Dance! In keeping with tradition, I encourage all you young ladies to ask the boys to dance! Keep in mind, there are plenty of teachers chaperoning tonight.
This show is all about celebrating the wonderful songs from the Golden Age of rock and roll. An important part of that celebration is having you join in on the fun, so feel free to clap and sing along from your seats! There is something magical about the music from this era and with so many classic hits to choose from, it was a real joy to put together! Our story is a respectful homage to the wonderful hit show and film...set much closer to home. Watching the cast work on these songs was not only fun for me, but also brought back so many warm memories. That is my wish for you. For those who remember, I hope you enjoy the journey back. For those unfamiliar, welcome to rock and roll!
As is always the case, it takes a team of talent to create these shows; to all involved, a very sincere thanks!
